I'm the kind of person who will get an image or idea of where I want to be, and then I want it NOW, and I get impatient and frustrated when it doesn't magically come to pass.
In other words: I expect perfection from myself, and get annoyed when my humanity is made clear.
Then I get tempted to just give it up, because clearly I'll never make it to where I want to be because I'm not there yet.
I forget that progress is slow, and perfection is impossible.
I forget that when I see other people who are where I want to be, they've been walking the road a lot longer than I have.
I forget to give it time, work, and a whole lot of patience.
And as a result, I have cried more tears than I like to admit over little things, like not landing a double turn the first try, or not being able to figure out a math formula within the first thirty seconds of hearing it explained.
Do I wish I were exaggerating?
You bet.
Am I?
Unfortunately, I am not.

Anything from fitness to singing, if I don't get where I want to be right away, I get discouraged.
If you've ever been there too, this blog post is for you.
God has recently been showing me that things take time.
He's the voice I hear that says, "one more try." Every time I throw in the towel.
Over the past two or three years, I've wanted to quit a number of things.
But that voice kept washing over me, and by God's grace, I kept going.
The past two weeks, I finally started seeing some results of the going-on-three-year journey.
It makes me tear up when I realize that all of it is because, 100% by God's strength and grace, I kept working at it.
Though I still struggle in this area, and wish that I could automatically be pro-level the first time I try something (wouldn't that be wonderful?), it's a lot easier to cut myself some slack and keep going when I have a goal in mind; and I tell myself, "one step, next step, little by little..."
Because the truth of the matter is: Nothing comes easy.
Even to the "pros".
Everybody has to work hard, give it time, and fight for it.
It doesn't matter where you're at in the journey, we all had to start it, and we all have more ground to cover.
Whatever your goals look like, and however far off they may be...
This is my letter to you to tell you, "Keep on walking."
It's okay to need to take a rest along the way, but never give up.
And whenever you feel discouraged, just look at how far you've already come.
One step, next step, you'll get there soon...
Little by little... you'll get there soon.
